I am running for the board in hopes to contribute to an already successful Consumer Cooperative. My wife and I are both teachers and live in the Lebanon school district. She teaches kindergarten and I am a middle school special education teacher. I have work experience in the private and public sector. I entered the teaching profession later in life. I spent most of my working years in retail. As sales manager of my family’s wine/liquor brokerage company, I gained experience in sales and merchandising. Our sales force worked very closely with grocers in NH, Maine and Vermont. In addition, I have past experience serving as a board member on a variety of boards over the years. For example, I served on Rockingham Community action, as well as, the Board of Commissioners in Rockingham County. I feel that the fabric of a community is woven with threads of community service.
I am struck with the manner in which the Coop continually reflects memberships’ commitment to the community and a sustainable economy in the Upper Valley. It surprises me that many in our community don’t realize that the Coop has 25 thousand members that generate more than 70 million dollars in gross revenues and employs more than 400 members of our community. I believe that is an honorable message to share. The force of our membership is impressive. Our members have contributed more than 25 thousand of dollars, through the "Pennies for Change” initiative, to area nonprofits in the month of December alone. I am proud to be a Coop member. I hope you will allow me the opportunity to serve on our board.
At the end of the day, you are judged less by what you have gained and more by what you have given. Thank you for your consideration.
